HOW TO DOWNLOAD THE CHILD SUPPORT ASSISTANT FOR WINDOWS INSTALLATION PROGRAM (including both Missouri and Kansas)

Click the link at the bottom of this page to download The Child Support Assistant Setup Program to your computer.  Then run it and follow the prompts.

If you have trouble downloading the file, you may need to temporarily turn off your anti-virus software. Some anti-virus software, particularly Norton's, will block downloads of installation programs from the Internet even if the installation program is digitally signed, as ours is. If you run the installer and get the Windows Defender error in Windows 10, please see #3 under "Installation Issues," below, for detailed instructions.

Please note that if you do not have a license code, once installed the program will run in a limited demonstration mode only. If you'd like to try The Child Support Assistant out, you can request a free trial license

INSTALLATION ISSUES

There are three known issues, described in the next three paragraphs, with installation. The first two can occur when you are installing a new version over an old version, and can be avoided by simply uninstalling the old version, using the Windows Control Panel, before installing the new version. To uninstall, choose "Programs and Features" from the Control Panel (for Windows 7 or 8 users) or "Uninstall a Program" from the Control Panel (for Windows 10 or 11 users). The old version will be listed as "The Child Support Assistant 2018" (or similar if you are somehow using an older version) and will be alphabetized under "T" for "The".

Issue #1: When installing an update to a prior installation of the software, depending on which version of Windows you are running, the Installer may terminate without installing, telling you that you need to uninstall the old version of the program first. If you see this error message, use the Control Panel as described above to uninstall the old version, then rerun the Installer.

Issue #2: If the Installer does not instruct you to delete the old version but, following an apparently successful installation, you get ERROR #53 when first running the program, then uninstall the program with the Control Panel as instructed above and rerun the Installer. The program will work after being reinstalled.

Issue #3: In Windows 10 or Windows 11, Windows Defender may display the following message when you try to run the installation program after downloading it: "Windows protected your PC. Windows Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk. More Info".  If you see this message, click the "More info" link, which will add a "Run anyway" button to the bottom of the box. Click "Run anyway" to continue with the installation.  The 2023 version will probably show this warning for now (for you techies, it's because right now the installer is not digitally signed), but we will be posting an update which will eliminate it. The software itself, however, will not change and if you have successfully installed it, you do not need to install it again just to get rid of the warning. If the software IS updated, that information will be provided so you will know to install the update.

CHANGES CONTAINED IN LATEST (3/05/2023) UPDATE FOR THE WINDOWS VERSION

The directions for Line 2c have been updated in accordance with the Supreme Court's correction effective April 5, 2022.

The directions and caveat chart on Line 11 have been updated in accordance with the Supreme Court's Order effective April 5, 2022.

CHANGES CONTAINED IN 11/02/21 UPDATE FOR THE WINDOWS VERSION

The Form 14 Assistant has been updated to include the latest Form 14, including the changes promulgated by the Missouri Supreme Court in 2021. It is mandatory for use as of November 4, 2021.

The 2017 / 2018 Form 14 is still supported. The 2014 Form 14 has been removed.

There are a few bug fixes (some of which have to do with 4K monitors - if you are using one, be sure to install the latest update). There is also a bug fix where line 2 was sometimes not updating on screen when switching between the old and new revisions (2021 vs 2017), although any subsequent edits to the Form 14 would force a proper update and the Form would always print correctly.  Line 2 now updates correctly.

There is a brand new feature that many have been asking for: there is a new toolbar button on the far right of the toolbar in the Form 14 Window that allows you to see the Form 14 values all at once as each child is emancipated. (for instance, if there are four children on your Form 14, you can see the child support amounts for three children, two children and one child simultaneously by either hovering your mouse pointer over the new toolbar button, or clicking the button).  These values can be included on your printed Form 14 as well.  Use caution with this new feature, as it does not account for other changes to the data in the Form 14 that may have occurred as each child emancipates.

(latest update to Kansas mode of the software [06/08/2018]):

As of August 2017, The Kansas Support Assistant has been updated to Administrative Order 287.  As of June 2018, the Interstate Pay Differential has been updated to the latest available values for 2018.
